Smart on FHIR Application

Cerner’s Smart on FHIR Application

HeroShot.jpg

HealtheInsights(SM) was built to access to clinical data for patients that does not exist clinicians native EMR (Electronic Medical Record) system. It was the first Smart on FHIR Application developed in-house.

THE PROJECT BREAKDOWN

My Role: Designer
The Team: 1 Designer (solo)
Time Frame: 3 Months

The problem

Often time clinicians get stuck in the middle of an organizational push to new technology. Many clients have different EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems throughout their organization because of these shifts. This makes it difficult for clinicians to access the appropriate patient information needed for various tasks and decision making. HealtheInsights is geared towards bringing more information to the clinicians - enabling them to make better clinical decisions no mater what EMR they work in.

If I could access patient Registries data in any EMR - that would be simply magical!

Workflows

This application would be the first to be developed by Cerner on the SMART platform. This platform acts as an App Store for EMR’s where a client can pick and choose which applications they install without the need to interface with a business, sign large contracts, etc. Because of this we needed to map out how the clinicians native EMR would interact with the new application we were building.

Content Organization

Various explorations were done for how the data would lay out in this new format. Without a guarantee that the user will be in our native EMR (Electronic Medical Record), we had to re-think some of the paradigms that we would typically reference.

In this discovery we also explored how the application would look in competitive EMRs such as Mckesson, Epic, eClinicalWorks, and Practice Fusion.
